While teeming with lush plants and aquatic birds, wetlands are more than just pretty landscapes. Wetlands also perform critical environmental functions, such as flood control and removal of water pollutants. Unfortunately, over the past 50 years, our limited understanding of these micro-environments has led to us to destroy many of them. Today we regret the depletion of 50% of the world's wetlands, which has resulted in declining animal populations, growing flood dangers and increased water pollution.
