Wetlands also perform critical environmental functions, such as flood control and removal of water pollutants. Unfortunately, over the past 50 years, our limited understanding of these micro-environments has led to us to destroy many of them. Today we regret the depletion of 50% of the worlds wetlands, which has resulted in declining animal populations, growing flood dangers and increased water pollution.
